Martin Ferguson AM MP

Federal Member for Batman

Australia’s former Minister for Resources, Energy and Tourism, Martin has been a lifetime activist of the labour movement and member of the Labour Party for 45 years. Martin is currently the Federal Member for Batman, Victoria.

He held his last ministerial portfolio for almost five and a half years and was a Member of Parliament for 17 years. His other appointments have included Shadow Minister for Regional and Urban Development, Shadow Minister for Transport and Infrastructure and later Shadow Minister for Primary Industries, Resources and Tourism. He was VP and President of ACTU and a member of the Governing Body of International Labour Organization; Research Officer, Assistant General Secretary and General Secretary of the Miscellaneous Worker’s Union, a member of the Executive of the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU). Martin graduated from University of Sydney with a BA (Hons) in Economics.
